The Uptown Yonge Neighbourhood Alliance was founded in May 2013 in response to the ‘Alaska’ condominium application at Yonge and Strathgowan. Our initial objective was simply to inform residents of the development application and to ensure that residents’ concerns were heard by the City and the developer. Since then, we have broadened our mandate to address not only this single site but also development and community issues in the Uptown Yonge area.
Our fundamental objectives are
- To work proactively to ensure that new development along Yonge Street respects and enhances the character of established Neighbourhoods;
- To inform local residents of urban planning issues and to facilitate residents’ engagement;
- To work collaboratively with residents and community stakeholders to foster a sense of community and cohesiveness in the Uptown Yonge area.
UYNA’s activities are focused on—but not limited to—the area centering on Yonge Street between Sherwood Avenue / Briar Hill Avenue and Alexander Muir Road / Glenview Avenue and Duplex Avenue and Mt. Pleasant Road.
UYNA’s first AGM will be held on Saturday June 7 from 12:00-12:30 at 21 St. Hilda’s Avenue (the corner of St. Hilda’s and Aldbury Gardens).
Only UYNA members in good standing will have voting privileges and will be eligible for director and officer positions. Membership sign-up will be available at the event or you may complete the following form and mail it, along with your cheque (payable to the Uptown Yonge Neighbourhood Alliance) to 40 St. Hilda’s Avenue, Toronto M4N 2P4.
